Thursday, August 27, 2020 Lynbrook Weekly Update Dear Lynbrook Families,
We are completing our first week following the regular remote learning schedule. I have received word that there may be some confusion regarding the Wednesday schedule.
Wednesdays are school days. Synchronous learning occurs online in real time on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. After attending Homeroom on Wednesdays mornings, asynchronous learning occurs. During asynchronous learning, students are self-directed and complete work online or with texts or other materials. The only real-time class on Wednesday is Homeroom. Immediately after Homeroom, students should log into Schoology to review their classes and plan their time. accordingly.
The Wednesday Schedule includes the following components:
Shorter Weeks with Special Schedules: When there is no school on a Monday or Friday, the weekly schedule will not include an asynchronous Wednesday Schedule. Mark your calendars now to ensure that students attend the right classes on the right days. Have a Plan B This week we have learned the importance of having a Plan B. Plan A is for students and teachers to log into Zoom and Schoology and have a wonderful seamless learning day. Plan B is for all the times when the world and cyberspace are not cooperating.
This week we had teachers who did not have access to the Internet or electricity due to the fires or outages in their neighborhoods. We had teachers teaching sitting in their cars outside of a Starbucks to get the Internet access they needed to conduct classes for their students.
There were substitute teachers we had to get plugged into systems to keep classes going and students learning.
Students who did not change their Zoom accounts from "guest" to "Sign in with SSO" were not allowed to enter their Zoom classes.
We are very dependent upon Internet connectivity, electricity, and online systems functioning properly.
For those Plan B moments, I recommend the following things:
Be prepared for your Plan B moments. They can and will happen.
Fire Update I am thankful to report that Lynbrook teachers are all out of fire danger at this time. There are some who are still evacuated, but they hope to return home soon.
Updated Guidance Counselor Assignments We are changing the assignments for our guidance counselors. Mrs. Taylor is no longer working at Lynbrook. We are in the process of hiring a replacement. When we do find a new guidance counselor, the student assignments for the guidance counselors will not change. Guidance Counselor Groups

Homeroom Homeroom is where all the students in the district will pause and learn about what is necessary to have a positive school climate and safe place for all to learn and grow. We will learn about what it means to be anti-racist, to have appropriate interactions will one another without sexual harassment or bullying, and we will learn about how to monitor our wellness. The Guidance department will offer special sessions to students to keep them up to date on all they need to know about navigating academic life. Homeroom will be a time for ASB to share messages with students. The Epic, our school news organization, will cover our virtual campus happenings. Homeroom is our time to stay connected.
May all the people you hold dear be safe and healthy at this time, Mrs. Jackson
