Parent Workshop - On Monday, March 20, 6:30-8:00 PM, FUHSD and Project Cornerstone are hosting a free online workshop for parents, guardians, and caring adults called "How To Talk To Our Teens About Current Events." Author Visit - Lynn Ng Quezon, author of Mattie and the Machine will be visiting the library Tuesday, March 21st. Ms. Quezon will discuss women in STEM and the work of an author. Athletic Boosters 2023-2024 - Athletic boosters serves all student athletes, works concessions and supports the teams during senior nights, events, and more. Adults interested in being on the Athletic Booster Board for 2023-2024, please contact Jamie Chan at jmc02@sbcglobal.net STTAR Tutor Program - Students who would like to improve their grade in a particular subject may request a STTAR tutor. A STTAR tutor can assist with reviewing course material, organization, and give tips on improving study skills. Homework Center - Students may drop in to Homework Center after school in the Library and get started on assignments. Student tutors are available until 4:45 pm on Homework Center days. National YoungArts Merit award for Singer-Songwriter - Lynbrook student Sravya Vakkalanka won a Merit award for her submission in the Singer-Songwriter category. Selected from thousands of applicants across the United States, YoungArts is a prestigious arts award for the nation's most accomplished young artists in the visual, literary and performing arts, chosen for the caliber of their artistic achievement by esteemed discipline-specific panels of artists through a rigorous blind adjudication process.The YoungArts Merit-award-level honors work that has been recognized as commendable by the panel, strong technically with a clear artistic point of view. Merit winners receive a monetary award of $100. You can view the works by 2023 finalists in Design Arts, Photography and Visual Arts at their online gallery. Science Olympiad - This past weekend, Lynbrook Science Olympiad participated in the Santa Clara County Regional Championships hosted at Milpitas High School — with 36 teams from 22 high schools across the county competing. Lynbrook Science Olympiad sent two teams of 15 students each, who placed 2nd and 8th overall, qualifying them for Lynbrook's first in-person State Finals in over a decade! In all, 26 students won 23 Top 6 medals from 23 events across the fields of science and engineering. Good luck as they prepare for NorCal State Finals on April 22nd at CSU Stanislaus. Fentanyl Presentations: This week Supervisor Deputy District Attorney Edward Liang spoke at three morning presentations one for 9th,10th, and 12th grade students. Edward Liang is the Supervising Deputy District Attorney for the Major Crimes and Drug Trafficking Team at the Santa Clara County. He partners with local narcotics investigators and law enforcement officers, and they have seized thousands of fentanyl pills across Santa Clara County. Liang has been with the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office for 11 years. His previous assignments include the Gang Unit, the Violent Felonies Unit, and the South County Office. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law and UC Berkeley. The presentation slides with the videos can be accessed online.
