Dear Lynbrook parents and families, In 2016, the FUHSD Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) was established to study the enrollment needs of FUHSD, with a specific focus on the declining enrollment of Lynbrook High School. Their efforts resulted in the Fremont Union High School District Board of Trustees' plan to supplement Lynbrook's enrollment. This plan has helped stabilize Lynbrook. Since that time, enrollment has continued to decline across all five district high schools. Other campuses are beginning to experience the impact of having fewer students, which was first felt at LHS. For this reason, our Superintendent Graham Clark has made the decision to reconvene the CAC to discuss strategies for balancing enrollment across all five comprehensive high schools. The District has made it clear that the strategies considered by the CAC will not include school closures. An initial outcome of the reconvened CAC will be to provide a report to the Board of Trustees at the November 15 Board meeting to enable them to make decisions regarding enrollment for implementation in the 2023-24 school year. The original committee was formed with the highest number of members coming from the Lynbrook High School attendance area, as Lynbrook was most affected by the decline in enrollment at that time. We are fortunate that many of the original CAC members from Lynbrook will be continuing to volunteer their service. Since the work of the committee will impact every school in the district, applications are open to community members residing in the Cupertino, Fremont, Homestead, and Monta Vista boundary areas. Lynbrook is currently represented by a strong contingent of members who remain committed to this work. The selection of the new members from across the district will be determined in adherence to the goal of forming a committee that is representative of a variety of stakeholders throughout the Fremont Union High School District, and I look forward to sharing more information and updates on this topic as the work of the CAC resumes. Should you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me directly. Kind regards, Maria Jackson Principal |
