National Anthems - As part of the city of Cupertino's sister city exchange program with Bhubaneswar, Odisha, the Heritage India Faire & Purab Festival was held last March. High school students were invited to try out for the opportunity to sing the National Anthems of India and the United States in front of the festival guests, including Respected Consulate General of India and the Mayor of Cupertino. Out of over 50 youth, Lynbrook sophomore Adithri Sharma was chosen to perform the anthems because of "her patriotic and powerful singing." Video of her performing her inspiring rendition of the Indian national anthem can be viewed here and The Star-Spangled Banner here. Class of 2022 - Congratulations on completing your journey at Lynbrook. We look forward to seeing where the future takes you in the years to come! |

Brief COVID Update I am happy to say the wave of COVID is passing at Lynbrook. The case counts this week were down to 49 cases from a high last week of 143. Fentanyl Presentation from Santa Clara County We hope those who were able to attend the presentation on Monday, May 23, in person or via Zoom, learned about the dangers of fentanyl. If you were not able to participate, there are resources online at the Santa Clara County website that you can access to educate yourself. I recommend that everyone in the community to learn about the serious and unpredictable nature of this narcotic. Heartbreak The terrible horror of the school shooting in Uvalde has devastated that small community and the pain and shock have rippled around the world. It is difficult to process unthinkable, horrible tragedies. A letter was sent to everyone from the FUHSD leaders that was full of helpful resources. Mrs. Goldstein shared an article that I found personally beneficial, What To Do If You Feel Traumatized By The Latest Mass Shooting. As principal, I do all I can to create a safe environment for our students and staff, and I am committed to do what I can to bring change in our country to curtail future heartbreak caused by school shootings. If we all work for change together, we can make a meaningful impact. It's a Wrap! This year has presented its challenges, but we made it through. Due to the rise of positive COVID cases, we canceled a few large indoor events, which is disappointing, but we are having ONE graduation to honor the Class of 2022. To help reduce crowding, tickets are required to attend the ceremony. The year was full of learning, joy, memories, as well as bumps. Students made it through with uninterrupted in-person classes. The Omicron surge in January was a very tricky time, but we were able to ride the wave without closing campus. I am very proud of our ASB and Class leaders. They set the tone of fun, friendship, and respect throughout the year. I encourage our leaders next year to continue that wonderful legacy. There is enough competition in the world. We don't need to create more stress and anxiety in what is supposed to be fun. At Lynbrook, we listen to our students. Joe Lin, the ASB President, and I met twice a month. Over the year, we discussed the campus atmosphere, and he brought forth the needs of his constituents. By the end of the school year, at the request of students, we have privacy panels in restrooms and free menstrual product dispensers in place. When wi-fi speeds were an issue, our network support specialists worked to resolve the problem quickly. We purchased stanchions to help reduce cutting in the food lines. To promote respect for all genders, the ASB dropped the Power Puff activity and changed it to a Battle of the Classes with fun throw-back games, ultimate frisbee, and more. Next year, they will add an inclusive and respectful dance element back into the week. The ASB and Class leaders have been very successful and collaborative. I want to thank Mr. Lee for his many years as the ASB Advisor. Next year, Ms. Anna Kirsh will be the new ASB Advisor. Already, she has been working closely with Mr. Lee, Mrs. Salazar, and the new ASB crew to get ready to soar into 2022-23. Looking to 2022-23 I am thrilled to say that we will be adding a fourth school counselor to our Guidance Department team. Each school in the district will have at least four school counselors to serve students and families. Our three amazing counselors, Mrs. Howden, Ms. Dang, and Mrs.Goldstein, look forward to welcoming their new team member. The job is posted, and we hope to have the position filled before the end of June. Construction of the new science building will commence immediately after school closes. Over the next school year, it will be exciting to watch the new building emerge before our eyes. The grand opening is planned for August of the 2023-24 school year. Teachers and administrators are working with architects on the modernization plans for the existing classrooms. If Measure G passes, there will be enough funding to complete all wings. With the cost escalation of materials, the price of our construction projects has risen steeply. Lynbrook students deserve larger, updated facilities with new HVAC as well as additional buildings to support our programs. With the additional funding, we will complete our modernization and campus master plan. Thank yous Many people who work together to make Lynbrook a fantastic place to learn and thrive. Our outstanding teachers have worked so very hard this year to meet the ever-changing needs of their students. We are fortunate to have teachers and support staff of the highest caliber. Our facilities manager, Mr. Edgar Duenas, has been working with a reduced crew the entire year. Looking around at our immaculate campus, one would not realize how shorthanded we are. I extend deep appreciation for Mr. Duenas and our maintenance team. This year we say farewell to five people who have dedicated their careers to serving the Lynbrook community. Mrs. Rita Korsunsky, Mrs. Debbie Schmalz, Mrs. Carol Fong, Mrs. Barb Takahashi, and Mrs. Maya Baba, you have enriched the lives of so many people. All the best to you as you embark on the next adventure. Thank you to the parents who tirelessly volunteer their time and make donations to support the programs at Lynbrook. The contributions of LIMB, Athletic Boosters, PTSA, Lynbrook Excellence (LExE), Robotics, FBLA, DECA, Speech and Debate, AISA, and the parent support for our many clubs, are essential to providing students with a rich educational experience. Look for a Summer Update in late July, and The Week Ahead emails will start when school resumes in August. Until then, have a safe and superb summer! |
