Summer 2019 | Vol. 5 No. 1 MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL Get set for a great 2019-20
Summer Packet of information in print & online
A very large envelope full of information will arrive at homes the second week of July. The PTSA and Lynbrook Excellence in Education (LExE) sponsored the paper mailing as a convenience to all Lynbrook families because we have been informed that many families prefer paper documents. For those who prefer getting information online, this email contains access to digital versions of the mailed forms and documents. Look under the "Summer E-Packet of Information" section to access the online documents.
Every school year, parents and guardians are asked to fill out many forms and read many informational documents. Some provide you with the opportunity to donate or volunteer. Your donations of money and time are a crucial part of maintaining the high quality programs at Lynbrook High School, and they are sincerely appreciated!
Preliminary 2019-20 Schedules sent through Informedk12.com
In the last week of July, families will receive an email sent by informedk12.com. That email will contain a student's preliminary class schedule. It is important to check the spam/junk mail folder to make sure emails from informedk12.com and fuhsd.org are not being removed from your inbox. Parents/Guardians will need to electronically "sign" the Preliminary Schedule and click submit.
Office Reopens Tuesday, August 1, 2019
The LHS website is the source for the latest information throughout the school year and during the summer. Make the LHS Parent Portal the first place you look for news and assistance. Our main office will reopen on Thursday, August 1, 2019. Teachers return on Wednesday, August 14, 2019. Guidance counselors return to work full-time on August 14, 2019. Please do not expect replies to emails sent to staff members until after August 14, 2019. The first day of school is Monday, August 19, 2019.
Drops ONLY & Change Days
Students who want to add or drop a class should come to school to meet with a guidance counselor or assistant principal at their designated day and time noted below. By this time, the schedule has been finalized and options will be very limited, but we do invite students to come to school and make a request to drop, add, or change a class. If all a students want is to drop a class ONLY, the student should attend the Drops Only day and time. If a student wants to drop and replace a class, the student should attend the Change Day and time for the student's grade. Please note, we will not rearrange the order of classes. For example, we will not rearrange a schedule from a 2nd-7th period school day to a 1st-6th period school day, nor will we move classes from one period to another.

If you use the paper forms enclosed, students will bring the paper forms (with checks attached) to Viking Days. If you completed and submitted forms online, students only need to bring checks on Viking Days (be sure to include student name and ID# on the memo line of each check – students do not need to attach the check to a form if the form was submitted online).
Preparing students for life beyond Lynbrook
As a school community, we are focused on and committed to this vision:
Lynbrook High School's vision is to create a dynamic environment of respect and achievement where all can learn deeply, apply their knowledge and contribute purposefully.
We are continuing to target our efforts toward our identified long term school goals that include multi-year strategies and program development in the following areas:
High Levels of Learning & Performance for ALL students Teachers will continue to work together in their Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to provide students with a guaranteed and viable curriculum. Teachers strive to calibrate course content and student performance expectations for consistency across classes.
Equipping ALL students with 21st Century Skills – Lynbrook's 4C's
Construction Update
The new cafe and a major section of the quad will be completed in time for the start of school. We invite all students and parents to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony that will open the events of Night of the Quad on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at 5:15 PM. It will be a wonderful community celebration.
This school year in March of 2020 after basketball season, the gym will close and the gym lobby project will begin. This project will be completed in December 2020. Construction on the new Guidance and Student Support building that will replace the main office, will break ground at the end of the school year. That project will affect the front of campus and the student parking lot. Information on how the campus access changes will be sent in the second semester..
Have a wonderful summer and we will see you in August!
