News & Updates NO SCHOOL on Monday, March 14th: Enjoy the sunshine! The Epic - Lynbrook's award-winning newspaper, the Epic, is accepting new staff applications for the 2022-23 school year. Interested students should view the application at bit.ly/epicapp2022 and request a recommendation from their English teacher. An informational meeting for all prospective applicants will be held on Wednesday, March 16 during lunch in room 611. Epic leaders will be talking about what it is like to be on the newspaper staff. World of Flavors Week - March is National Nutrition Month and this year's theme from the CA Department of Education is Celebrate a World of Flavors. In support of honoring diversity through food, FUHSD Nutritional Services will be celebrating A World of Flavors Week March 21-25. During that week, culturally diverse food selections will be featured each day, and food service areas will be decorated with an international flair. Food selections will include Carnitas Burritos Bowls, Chicken Tikka Masala, Bahn Mi Pizza, Pesto Pizza, and much more. Heritage India Faire & Purab Festival - Cupertino Bhubaneswar Sister City Initiative invites teachers, students, and parents to participate or volunteer at the Heritage India Faire & Purab Fest sponsored by Amazon at Memorial Park on March 26 from 11 am - 7 pm. The Festival will showcase arts, culture, trade, education exchange immersion program, and unique performances of all dance genres and dance forms from the States in Eastern and North Eastern India. The Festival is open to all and is a celebration of Cupertino's sister city relationship with Bhubaneswar, Odisha. As part of the sister city exchange program, the Festival educates and celebrates mutual understanding of diverse cultures promoting people to people friendships. The Festival is seeking High School student volunteers and will be providing certificates to the students. Homework Center - On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays students can come to the Library after school to work on homework. Student tutors are available from 3:30-5:00pm. STTAR Tutor Program - Students, was your grade in an academic class not as high as you had hoped? Consider requesting a STTAR Tutor now to help you this semester. Besides reviewing course material, a STTAR tutor can help you with organization and could also help you improve your study skills. Visit https://lhs.fuhsd.org/guidance-student-support/sttar-tutoring to request a STTAR Tutor. Club Food Day- Our annual Club food day is coming up this Wednesday in the quad during lunch! Clubs will be selling treats like boba, popcorn chicken, fries, and churros to raise money. You can purchase tickets during brunch and lunch Tuesday 3/15 and Wednesday 3/16 in the quad. Clubs will not accept cash or third-party tickets, you must purchase the food with pre-paid tickets. See you there! |

Boys Varsity Soccer All-League Team - Congratulations to our Boys Soccer team for a great season. Seniors Nicholas Huang and Arnav Jain made the All-League Second Team, while seniors Srikar Nimmagadda and Matthew Li earned First Team Honors. On top of that, senior Yoshi Wang won the league's Most Valuable Offensive Player and senior Demir Genc was chosen as the league's Most Valuable Goalkeeper. Well done to these individuals, and the entire team for an outstanding season. Conrad Challenge Finalist - Congratulations to sophomore, Priyanka Supraja Balaji, who was selected to present her team's product and compete in the final round of the 2021-2022 Conrad Challenge for the global award at the Conrad Innovation Summit. After multiple rounds, 60 teams qualified for the final round in the category "Repurpose uses of Tobacco" of which Top 5 teams were selected as finalists to present their product innovation in the summit. Lynbrook Speech and Debate- Akul Murthy advanced to the California State Speech Competition. He was the 9th Finalist the qualifiers tournament that took place this weekend. |

| NASA GeneLab - Congratulations to senior Hari Parthasarathy for presenting his work on how dietary supplements can accelerate wound healing and tumor suppression at the American Society of Gravitational and Space Research conference in Baltimore. This work was part of his research that won the NASA Genelab for High Schools competition, and his trip was sponsored by NASA. He is currently working on an additional cross-analysis research manuscript continuing his research. |

Note from Principal Jackson Mask Requirement Lifted On Tuesday, March 15, 2022, students and staff will no longer be required to wear masks indoors. Some may continue to wear masks, and others may stop. Though Santa Clara County Public Health still strongly recommends indoor masking, the mandate was lifted on Friday, March 11, 2022 at 11:59 PM. |

Construction Update The walkway along the GSS office is OPEN all the way to the sidewalk. Tomorrow, we will check every detail of the theater lobby construction. When it passes inspection, it will be open for use. Events will take place in the theater this school year. In the summer the interior of the theater will be painted and necessary repairs will be made. Senate Bill 328 Requires New Bell Schedule in August 2022 California will become the first state to require later start times in response to medical research that shows most teens are sleep deprived as a result of changes to their biological clocks that prevent them from going to sleep early (EdSource). As mandated in Senate Bill 328, starting next school year. public high schools cannot begin classes before 8:30 AM. The teachers and district leaders worked together to design a bell schedule to meet the requirements of the law and the FUHSD Collective Bargaining Agreement. All five high school in the district will be on the same schedule. The schedule will have four block days and three tutorials/advisories. |
