Tami Trujillo- The past years of the pandemic and political turmoil have divided our nation but also united groups together. While facing a common enemy, the pandemic has inspired incredible acts of generosity and courage. Fighting against racial injustice has brought communities together as we work towards a more inclusive future. As we continue to work through disharmony and disorder, we must celebrate our individuality to gain a deeper understanding of one another. To accomplish unity, we must celebrate our individuality instead of disregarding them to create an accepting society. |
| Helena Su- Create What we freshly create endures the erosion of time. Although our physical being eventually dims, it's continuous endeavor provokes further creativity and incubates change in the world. The creation may first appear trivial, similar to how this cube is just plastic film, but with continuous trials and experiments, I discovered how to make it shine with vibrant color. The liquid appearance of the colors represents unceasing changes and unlimited possibilities. |

Sydney Chao- Hope is Seeing Light in the Midst of Darkness As I left my house under the weight of the pandemic and wildfire ashes, I felt overwhelmingly anxious. Strange yellow skies from ashes loomed down and reflected into my house window. One panel looked somber, yet the other panel contained the sun's steady beam, which overpowered the somber panel. Just then, I realized that hope surrounded me, I just needed to focus on the positive, which is what the window panel accurately symbolizes. I believe that finding the hope that motivates the world to unite and bring back normalcy springs from a positive mindset which overpowers the world's looming darkness. |
| Shivam Maji The Sentinel The future is uncertain. It spirals out into infinity, branching and twisting, changing every minute. I wanted to encapsulate that unpredictable feeling in my image. Here, an ancient statue stands guard in front of a modern apartment and a neon mural featuring Han Dynasty warriors, while wearing a COVID mask and being lit by futuristic neon lights. The statue contrasts against its contemporary setting, resilient against the flow of time. To me, this image represents the tenacity and persistence of the human race against many challenges. |

Boys Varsity Basketball - Lynbrook is incredibly proud of the Boys Varsity Basketball team who battled valiantly in the Division III NorCal Playoffs on Thursday night. While the 76-67 loss to the No. 2 seed Oakland High School Wildcats was disappointing, the team had an amazing run this year—winning the Central Coast Section Championship title and going farther than the school has ever made it in a CIF State Championship tournament. Lynbrook teams receive CCS Scholastic Team Awards We are proud to announce that Lynbrook has three teams among the awardees of the Central Coast Section 2021-2022 Winter Season Scholastic Championship Team Awards winners. These awards, instituted by the CCS Board of Managers in 1985, recognize the top five Varsity teams, from each Central Coast Section sport, with the highest collective grade-point-average of all teams competing in that sport during that season of competition. The student-athletes involved have achieved distinction in the classroom, and at the same time, have committed themselves to participation in interscholastic athletics. Their academic performance is yet another indication that such athletic participation enhances classroom activities. Congratulations to Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer, and Wrestling!
LHS Mock Trial - The Lynbrook High School Mock Trial Team placed second out of a field of 20 teams during the Santa Clara County Mock Trial Virtual Tournament 2022. Lynbrook's prosecution team, led by senior Pranay Mamileti, went against Prospect High's defense team. Although the prosecution secured a conviction, Lynbrook lost by .3%—one of the narrowest margins. Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen and Public Defender Molly O'Neal were among the volunteer scorers. Justice Mary Greenwood presided. Scorer Chris Cobey commented, "I had it extremely close, but I had Lynbrook winning on the strength of its pretrial performance." This year's case was about Jamie Cobey, a tenant in a rural desert community accused of placing a venomous Mojave rattlesnake into the mailbox of her landlord, Eric Smith. The snake bit Mr. Smith causing him to die. The People charged Ms. Cobey with first-degree murder or, in the alternative, manslaughter. Sophomore Nachiket Joshi argued for the People to include evidence of snake tongs found in the defendant's back yard uncovered by a video camera that the police gave to Eric Smith to monitor Jamie Cobey. Freshman Athreya Iyer portrayed electrical worker Angel Russell who discovered Mr. Smith's body. Deputy Sheriff Toni Garrett (portrayed by Sophomore Sophie Yang) provided the camera to Eric Smith and conducted the subsequent murder investigation. Coroner Charlie Dunn (junior Tankia Anbuchelvan) concluded Mr. Smith died by snakebite and ruled out the possibility that the snake got into the mailbox on its own. Finally, neighbor and retired attorney Terry Edwards (sophomore Ohana Miura) testified she overheard the defendant yell "I'm going to kill him" the day before Smith's death. Senior Shreya Kakhandiki led Lynbrook's defense team. The team is coached by teacher Mr. David Pugh and attorney Mr. Mark Shem, who received the honor of being inducted into the Mock Trial Coaches Hall of Fame! To Mask or Not to Mask, that is the question When students return to school on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 after the three-day weekend, masks will not be required. Governor Newsom announced that beginning at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, March 11, California will end its statewide indoor masking requirement in schools. The outdoor mask mandate ended on Tuesday, March 1, 2022. Masking is strongly recommended for staff and students regardless of vaccination status. If Public Health of Santa Clara County mandates a return to masks, we will do as required. Construction Update The walkway along the GSS office is OPEN! There is no need to walk all the way around the pool to access the gym. Getting on and off campus is more convenient, but I will miss seeing the students and hearing their laughter every morning and afternoon as they used the office as a shortcut through campus. The new theater lobby is near completion. The inside of the theater is getting spruced up this summer. We could do it sooner, but there are many events that need to happen this semester and we need access to the theater for concerts. In the summer, we will install new carpet and paint etc. When the updates are done, we will have a new lobby with a nice theater. |
