Get ready for Finals Week: December 13-17, 2021 |
Enrichment time is designed for students to meet with teachers or study. Teachers will let students know their system to make an appointment with them during Enrichment Time. The library will be open Monday-Wednesday 8:00 AM- 3:25 PM. The library will close on Thursday 12/16 at 11:00 AM. There will be no Homework Center after school during Final Exam Week. Students should plan time to meet with their STTAR tutors during Enrichment Time. Students are not required to be on campus during Enrichment Time. | Note from Principal Jackson Hello, Lynbrook, It is December! We are in the last weeks of the first semester and counting down with 10 days to finals. The finals schedule is different, so be sure to pay close attention to when your classes meet. If you are looking for some tips to help you make the most of the last week to prepare for finals, I recommend this brief article from Boston University. Construction Update The turf is being installed on the baseball and softball fields at the back of campus. If the weather cooperates, the fields will be ready in early February. The original completion date was late January, but materials were held up in the supply chain. Bothman is doing all it can to quickly complete quality work. They have been very considerate of the school and community needs. The theater lobby is on target to be completed by early March. Starting in January, we will lose access to campus along the GSS (Guidance and Student Services) office at the front of the school. The new concrete walk and landscaping will be completed through February. Starting in January, the best ways to access campus will be the entry by the pool and the entry by the art and music wing. The map below designates entry areas. Students, please add an additional minute or two in your morning routine to give you enough time to get to class. |
Norm MacKenzie Award Presented to Lynbrook Athletic Director Jennifer Griffin T he California State Athletic Directors Association is honoring Lynbrook Athletic Director Jennifer Griffin with a Norm MacKenzie Award. The Norm MacKenzie Award is presented to standout "rookies" who are in their first one to four years as Athletic Director. Coach Griffin oversees 36 teams in 22 sports. She supports 44 coaches and guides over 600 student-athletes. When no coaches were available for field hockey, Coach Griffin stepped in. The RAH Hockey legacy would have halted if it wasn't for her efforts. When the small window opened for students to participate in sports during the school closure, our swimmers didn't have a coach. Coach Griffin stepped up to keep the program going. It was challenging to schedule facilities, organize games, and secure equipment for three seasons' worth of sports condensed and overlapping over four months, but Coach Griffin managed it all. There are many days when she is one of the first persons to arrive on campus and among the last to leave. To celebrate our scholar-athletes who sign to schools to play at the collegiate level, Coach Griffin organized a Signing Day. It is a time for our athletes to shine. Beyond Lynbrook, Coach Griffin is a respected voice in the Central Coast Section, where she serves as the Chair for Boys Water Polo. Jennifer will receive public recognition for her accomplishment at the California State Athletic Directors Association Conference Awards Banquet in San Diego on April 23, 2022. Be sure to congratulate her! Self-study Update The entire Lynbrook staff and representative students and parents are working on the WASC Self-study . "ACS WASC accreditation is a school improvement process that serves as the foundation for quality education. An accredited school is a statement to the broader community and the stakeholders that it is trustworthy institution for student learning and committed to ongoing improvement." Starting last school year, and for almost every Friday since August, the Focus Groups have been conducting an in-depth examination of all aspects of Lynbrook. As a result of our hard work, we will have a deeper understanding of what we do to meet our students' needs, and identify areas of improvement. One of the final steps in the process is creating an action plan to guide our growth. The completed self-study is due in late February. A team of educators will review our self-study and our plan before they visit Lynbrook in April to validate our findings. | With the Omicron variant surfacing in the Bay Area, it is important that we remain vigilant. Though the vast majority of people in our community are vaccinated, we don't want to get or spread COVID-19. Students and staff members must remain home if they have one or more of the following symptoms: fever, chills, sore throat, shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle or body aches, nausea, diarrhea. Students and staff with one or more of these symptoms must submit a negative COVID-19 test before returning to school. Questions? Contact Mrs. Susan Rocha At Lynbrook, masks are required at all times unless eating. The league rule for indoor sports is as follows: "All indoor athletes, with the exceptions of wrestling and competitive cheer, will hit the playing floor wearing masks. As exertion increases during play, athletes may remove their masks if the school is doing weekly testing. All individuals not involved in active play shall be masked throughout the game, including coaches, athletes on the bench, fans, scoring table staff, and officials." Thank you to all who have been diligently following the health guidelines. We are in this together and the precautions we take for ourselves help everyone. |

High School Drug Use Statistics Though not all teens abuse drugs or alcohol, most teenagers know somebody who does. Drug prevalence and availability is high as well. The latest statistics show that nearly 20% of high school students have been offered, sold or given drugs, on school property, in the past year. Fortunately, the fact is that drug use among teenagers is declining: a recent study found that 4.3% of high schoolers had used drugs in the month before being surveyed, which is lower than previous years. Please contact Alison Coy, Director of Educational Options, at Alison_coy@fuhsd.org or 408-522-2275 for more information. |
