Note from Principal Jackson
Hello, Lynbrook!
It has been a great Week 2 at Lynbrook. Spirit week culminated with a rally in the quad. Freshmen elected their leadership. Our Field Hockey team officially opened the fall sports season with a game against Santa Clara High School. Students are engaged with learning and having FUN.
Mask Required Indoors and Outdoors on Campus The district sent an email on August 24, 2021, with the subject, FUHSD Update on Masking Policy and Health & Safety Reminders. We now require the use of masks at all times outdoors on our campuses, except when eating or drinking. It is also important for students to wash their hands or use the hand sanitizing stations. Students should not share food or water bottles.
Voluntary Vaccination Submission On August 25, 2021, the district office sent a, "Voluntary Request for Student Vaccination Information" When we learn of a student or staff member with a positive COVID-19 test result we must notify any close contacts. In order to continue to streamline our contact tracing and reporting process, we are asking families to voluntarily share information on the vaccination status of their child(ren). Having this information included in a student's file will help us to expedite communication if and when a student is identified as a close contact. Each family will be sent one Informed K12 form per child, requesting student vaccination information.
We will continue our practice of personally contacting close contacts and sending an informational email to the community when we learn of a positive COVID-19 case. If a student/parent is NOT personally contacted, that means their student is NOT considered to be a close contact of the person who tested positive.
Dressing for School It is warm and I do understand that students want to be comfortable and fashionable, but students must choose to wear clothing that is school-appropriate. On page 13 of the student planner that each student received, it states, "If clothing is too short and/or too revealing, an administrator will speak to the student. No clothing displaying substances illegal for those under 18 is allowed. Shoes/sandals must be worn at all times." Students dressed inappropriately may be offered clean clothing to wear during the school day and parents will be notified. We appreciate your attention and support with this issue.
Lunch Drop-off & Student Dismissal Because many students are finished with classes at lunch, there are students in and near the parking lot and walking across Johnson Ave. In the 10 minutes before lunch, there is an increasing number of people pulling into the parking lot and parking in spaces or along the red fire lane to deliver food to students. This influx of cars in combination with students drivers leaving campus, and other students leaving by bike or on foot is creating a traffic jam on Johnson Ave. and can be unsafe for students. In the mornings, staff works in the crosswalks and in many areas in front of the school to ensure a safe arrival for students. During lunch, staff needs to be on campus supervising students to ensure that the lunch line is orderly and keeps moving quickly. Staff cannot manage the parking lot during lunch.
For the safety of students, I ask that parents who deliver lunch to students park in front of the school along Johnson Ave. and have your student meet you there to pick up lunch. Please do not enter the parking lot to deliver lunches.
