Note from the Principal, Mrs. Jackson
Hello, Lynbrook!
Many thanks to the 1807 people who promptly completed the FUHSD Reopening Commitment Letter SY 2020-21. We will consider no reply as a choice to remain in remote learning. Now that we have decisions, we will assign returning students to a cohort. If the number of students who want to return can be safely managed, we may consider having students attend school four days a week. Families will be contacted by April 7 with their student's schedule and the plan and requirements for the reopening of school on April 19.
Since we cannot have spectators at sports events, the Lynbrook Film Club live streams some events. Subscribe to their YouTube channel to stay current with the action. Tonight the Lynbrook Football team takes on the Fremont Firebirds. Boy's Varsity Soccer is currently in 4th place with a record of 3-1. To get as many students participating in sports as possible this year, the league moved all play into the second semester. Cross Country, Girls Golf, Girls Tennis, and Swimming are wrapping up their seasons. Field Hockey, Football, Soccer, and Badminton are in full swing. Girls Volleyball, Boys Tennis, Baseball, Softball and Boys Golf, Basketball, and Wrestling are conditioning and practicing. We have secured a COVID-19 testing service for all of our indoor athletes. This precaution will help ensure safe competition with other schools. Athletic Director Jennifer Griffin has done an outstanding job managing all of these teams in action simultaneously. We appreciate the cooperation of CUSD for allowing Lynbrook Track & Field to use the facilities at Miller for the next week.
We are now in the Orange Tier. What does that mean for us in Santa Clara County? Here are the most recent recommendations for Santa Clara County Public Health:
The following changes are effective, Wednesday, March 24: All activities authorized under the State's Orange Tier, including indoor dining, can resume in accordance with State capacity limits and safety protocols, including:

Have a wonderful weekend and spend some time outdoors. Take a hike on a nearby trail.
GO VIKES! Mrs. Jackson
The Fremont Union High School District and Lynbrook High School are proud to announce that Eshani Jha was awarded 3rd Place in the Regeneron Science Talent Search.
The third place award and $150,000 went to Eshani Jha, 17, of San Jose, California, for her development of a biochar filtration system that removes microplastics, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and heavy metals (such as arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury) from drinking water. Biochar has properties similar to charcoal but is much more sustainable and affordable because it can be made from biowastes. Eshani found that its effectiveness could be enhanced by increasing its surface area and carbon content and by adding certain chemical modifications to improve its ability to sequester contaminants. She estimates her filter would cost under a dollar per month. Lynbrook is proud to announce that seniors Steve Dou and Michael Zhao are among the150 high school seniors in the 33rd Class of Coca-Cola Scholars.
They will each receive a $20,000 college scholarship and join a family of 6,450+ alumni who are leading positive change in their communities and around the world.
Less than 1/6th of 1% of applicants were chosen to receive this extremely competitive award. These 150 students, who were selected from an initial pool of 99,403 applications from across the country, not only exemplify superior leadership, service, and academics – they are change agents, positively affecting others in their communities. One year ago, our school's Science Olympiad team was poised compete at the Santa Clara Regional for a chance to qualify for the State competition for the first time since 2012. Then, the pandemic hit and Regionals were cancelled, which was devastating for our students who had been practicing all year for that moment. On March 6th of this year, our students had an opportunity to take care of unfinished business at the revamped, pandemic-approved, virtual Regionals.
Lynbrook's Science Olympiad club sent three teams of fifteen students each to compete in the Santa Clara Regional tournament, finishing as the 2nd (!!!!!) place high school, beating both Palo Alto and Monta Vista, and placing behind only Mountain View High School.
Our A, B, and C teams placed second, fourth, and eighth, respectively out of a field of 36 different teams from across the region, with 36 different students receiving Top 6 medals across 23 different events in the fields of science and engineering.
Congratulations to all of these students and we wish the members of Team A the best of luck as they prepare for States on April 17th.
Thank you to Mr. Thanh Nguyen for providing this update.
