Thanksgiving Week 2020 Dear Lynbrook Community!
Happy Thanksgiving!
In last week's The Week Ahead email, I asked if anyone would like to know more about opportunities to "share from their abundance." So many of you replied that I thought sending one email follow-up would be the best way to share some of the ways your contributions can make a difference at Lynbrook.
December 1, 2020, is Giving Tuesday. The pandemic has had unforeseen effects on some of our programs. Please consider offering your tax-deductible donation to one or more of the following groups:
Lynbrook Excellence in Education (LExE): This group of dedicated parents and school leaders meet monthly to review grant requests submitted by Lynbrook staff. These have traditionally focused on technology enhancements for the campus, special classroom equipment for science classes, professional learning opportunities for teachers, campus improvement projects, purchasing musical instruments, funding for art classroom equipment, and recording equipment for the vocal music department. This year LExE has helped by supplying additional hand sanitizing stations, so all classrooms and common areas have no-touch dispensers. They have recently committed to funding the installation of two high-lumen LED laser projectors in the gym. These projectors will make the gym a more effective location to host parent presentations, provide safe viewing for ASB videos during rallies, and create a more functional learning space for PE classes. Lynbrook Athletics: The Lynbrook Athletics Department has been hit hard by the pandemic. Last semester, spring sports were canceled. This year, we hope to have some form of an athletic season for all teams next semester. A sports season will only happen as we have clearance from the County of Santa Clara Public Health. Though things may not be certain, we need to be ready if we are given consent. That means we need to have coaches hired, equipment ready, officials and referees scheduled, and uniforms purchased. Entrance fees to games have typically offset expenses. This year, if we have games, we are not allowed to have spectators, which will result in a loss of funding. Any help you can provide Lynbrook Athletics would be much appreciated. Make a tax-deductible donation by check to Lynbrook High School with Athletics in the memo. Please mail it to Lynbrook High School Athletics, 1280 Johnson Ave, San Jose, CA 95129.
PTSA: If you have not joined the PTSA, I encourage you to do so. Donations to PTSA have been essential to supporting clubs and groups who lost thousands of dollars last year due to event cancellations. They have been supportive of needs in all areas of campus and are currently supporting enhancements to the new gym lobby, and they have the athletics department and ASB. Become a member today.
Fremont Union High Schools Foundation (The Foundation): The Foundation has brought speaker events to support students and parents. They funded a grant for the Lynbrook Art Department. We requested funds to provide individual kits for our students enrolled in art classes. They also provided support to our Chinese teacher, who requested access to an engaging online learning website. To learn more about the wonderful things The Foundation does for all district schools, please visit their website and donate.
Other groups on campus who would appreciate support:
For those of you give financially, I thank you. To those of you who support by donating your time and helping hands, I thank you.
Our community members give of themselves in so many ways, and I appreciate your enduring support! Together we make Lynbrook an outstanding place to learn and grow.
With gratitude,
Maria Jackson Principal
Employee of the Year Nominations Each year, Lynbrook High School and the Fremont Union High School District celebrate Employees of the Year. Students, Parents, Staff, and Community members are invited to nominate Lynbrook staff members. More information & Nomination Form Nominations must be submitted by Friday, December 18, 2020 Opportunity Week While in remote learning, Finals Week has been replaced with Opportunity Week. Many classes will not be giving finals in the traditional sense. This is a week for culminating activities and for students to have time to work on projects, meet with a teacher to submit outstanding work, or study for in-class assessments. To accommodate these goals, the class meetings will be 90 minutes, but no more than two classes will meet a day. There is time in the afternoon for extended time to meet with teachers or study. Details regarding Enrichment time are coming soon. Students, do you have a passion for unity, equality, harmony, and acceptance? You are invited to become a part of the new Lynbrook Student Equity Commission..
If you are interested in being a part of this commission, enter your information in the linked document. We will send you a link to our first open meeting on Thursday, December 3, 2020, at 3:45 PM.
