Dear FUHSD Community,
As we approach the end of the first six weeks of the semester, we wanted to provide an update on the status of the reopening of schools. As of today, Santa Clara County remains in the Purple Tier in California's reopening system. Under the State's updated COVID-19 and Reopening In-Person Instruction Framework & Public Health Guidance for K-12 Schools, schools located in counties within the Purple Tier cannot reopen for in-person instruction for grades 7-12. For that reason, all FUHSD schools will remain in distance learning through the next seven weeks of the semester (until April 9).
We know this news is disappointing to many in our community. We are hopeful that both our county and the State will continue to make progress in reducing the number of COVID-19 cases over the coming weeks so that there may be a path to reopening later in the school year. We also remain hopeful that our teachers and school staff will be vaccinated in the coming weeks and we continue to communicate with local health officials on this topic; however, at this time we have not seen a specific plan or been provided with definitive information from the County Public Health Department on when that might occur.
While it is unfortunate that we are not yet able to return to in-person instruction, we have been increasing the number of students on our campuses for instructional support and interventions over the past month. We remain committed to providing students who are struggling with distance learning the supports they need to be successful during this time. We are also pleased that the current Public Health regulations have allowed for some of our student activities and athletic teams to begin practicing and competing this week, with the hope that additional teams will be able to do so if and when we move into lower tiers.
As we approach the February break, we also wanted to take the opportunity to remind you that the mandatory travel restrictions put in place by Santa Clara County in December still apply. All individuals who travel more than 150 miles outside of Santa Clara County are required to quarantine for 10 days upon return. It is critical that every member of our school community follow these guidelines so that we can avoid another surge in cases following the holiday break.
Thank you again for your continued partnership and support in this challenging time. _______________________________________________________________________
