On this day in 1984, Steve Jobs introduced Apple’s revolutionary computer Macintosh, two days after the groundbreaking commercial “1984” aired before a national TV audience.  The Macintosh was the first successful mass-market all-in-one desktop personal computer with a graphical user interface, built-in screen and mouse.  It was pivotal in establishing desktop publishing as a general office function.

Job Shadow – The Lynbrook PTSA Job Shadow Program is back this year and will take place on March 17.  The Job Shadow program allows students to observe, participate, and engage with professionals in their chosen field.  To participate, students must submit a registration form and create an account on the Job Shadow website January 27 through January 31.  Please go to https://www.lhsjobshadow.org and click on the Instructions button for more information.  Registration forms can be downloaded from the Job Shadow website or student portal.  You will be able to view a list of participating companies on the Job Shadow website by February 5.

EPIC Issue 4 Centerspread Survey – the Epic is writing a centerspread about brain rot and the impact of meme-focused media on society. Please fill out our short survey by Tuesday, January 28 at 4:00 p.m. This survey is completely anonymous, unless you wish to be contacted to be interviewed for any story. Rei Trujillo Athletic Scholarship Application - The Rei Trujillo Athletic Scholarship fund was created to honor Rei Trujillo of Lynbrook’s Class of 2021. Any Senior athlete who has done a minimum of two sports in the same academic year is welcome to apply.  Please email Jamie Chan at jmc02@sbcglobal.net for an application or if you have any questions.  Applications must be submitted to Ms. Chan by April 1, 2025.

Spring Musical - Our spring musical Fiddler on the Roof still needs singers and dancers. If interested, please see Mr. Wenner in Studio 74.

Commemorative Bricks - Order your commemorative brick or tile!  A perfect way to show your Viking pride! This is an opportunity to have your name, or a family member’s name, etched and proudly shown on the Lynbrook campus! Personalized bricks make great permanent gifts. This is a wonderful way to recognize families, students, alumni and to show your Viking Spirit. Standard commemorative bricks will be placed at the Stadium Entrance. STTAR Tutoring Program - Students do you need help in a particular subject? You may request a STTAR Tutor for recurring weekly one-on-one peer tutoring sessions from a fellow Viking. Homework Center - Homework Center is open in the library on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays after school ends until 5:00 pm.  Students can work independently on their assignments or get help from Student Tutors if needed.

Join LHS Asgardians' Chess/Valorant Team! - The LHS Asgardians will be holding tryouts for the spring season for Chess and Valorant! If you are interested in signing up, please fill out this form: https://tinyurl.com/asg-spring25. Tryouts will be held on the following days:

For Chess, we will be holding tryouts on the 28th of January in person at the Cafeteria (Subject to Change) from 3:55 pm to 5:45 PM.  

For Valorant we will be holding tryouts on the 31st of January online from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

Form submissions will be closed on the 30th. If you know of anyone else who are interested, please have them fill out the form! Looking forward to seeing you all during those times! 

 

SPORTS:

Concussion Testing – We are fortunate to have a coach available to administer the concussion test one final time before the start of spring sports on February 3rd. If you have not yet completed the test, please plan to be in Room 701, 3:05 PM on January 24th.  Please note: Doors will close promptly at 3:30 PM, and no one will be admitted after that time. There will be no additional test dates, so it is crucial that you attend if you have not yet taken the test. Make sure you’re ready for the upcoming season—don’t miss this opportunity!

Badminton Team Info Meeting – You must attend the Badminton Info meeting if you are interested in joining the Badminton team this year.  The meeting will be on Friday 1/24 right after school in library study rooms 1 and 2.
