On this day in 1947, the first arcade game is patented.  Thomas Goldsmith’s “Cathode ray tube amusement device” is considered the ancestor of video games.  It is the first game to incorporate an electronic display.  The device simulates an artillery shell arcing towards targets on a cathode-ray tube (CRT) screen, which is controlled by the player by adjusting knobs to change the trajectory of a CRT beam spot on the display in order to reach plastic targets overlaid on the screen.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

Chromebooks - Freshmen who have a long-term Chrome Book, if you have not already gone to the library last Friday please come this Wednesday during Tutorial. Mr. Phuong and Mr. Chan will be swapping your chrome books. Please be sure to complete the Technology Request form and bring your student id and device to swap.

AP US History Diagnostic - All sophomores interested in taking AP United States History next year are expected to take the diagnostic exam on Wednesday, February 2.  To register for the Diagnostic you must complete the survey in the “APUSH Diagnostic” folder in the "LHS Guidance, Class of 2024" Course on Schoology.  Please sign up by 11:59pm, Tuesday, February 1.

Summer Planning Workshops - Are you wondering what to do this summer? The College & Career Center advisors will be hosting Summer Planning Workshops. The first one is for juniors and will be held in the Cafe during Tutorial on Wednesday, January 26. The second one is for sophomores and freshmen and will be held in the Cafe during Tutorial on Wednesday, February 2. Please attend if you would like some guidance for planning your summer activities.

Homework Center - On Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays come to the Library after school and get started on your homework. Student tutors are available to assist you. 3:30-5:00pm

STTAR Tutor Program - Was your grade in an academic class not as high as you had hoped? Consider requesting a STTAR Tutor NOW to help you this semester. Besides reviewing course material, a STTAR tutor can help you with organization and could also help you improve your study skills. Singing Valentines Grams - Are you under pressure to find a Valentine's gift? Want to surprise someone at an affordable price? Then do we have a deal for you! Lynbrook Choirs will be selling Singing Valentines this year. On February 10th during 3th period, Lynbrook choir will serenade your “special someone” (or embarrass your friends) with a romantic song. Blockbuster Spirit Week & Lynbrook Idol - And the academy award for best production design goes to… whoever brings their most creative version of a (non) backpack! Hope you enjoyed showing off your backpacks… or lack thereof… and remember to submit your backpack to the Lynbrook App to earn points! Today is our first day of Lynbrook Idol! Participants have been working hard to put on an amazing performance so come out to support them in the quad at lunch! Videos will be available each day after performances so please watch them before voting that night! Also, tomorrow is Old Western vs Country Club Style Day! To participate, make sure you review the list of restrictions linked in our Instagram post on Lynbrook ASB!

Charity Week Today is the second day of Charity Week! Standings are currently on the Lynbrook ASB Instagram, with Freshmen in the lead and Seniors in last place! Make sure to come out to the quad and donate to help your class win coin wars and support a good cause!

LIMB Fundraiser - On Saturday February 12th, the Lynbrook Instrumental Music Boosters (LIMB) is holding a Goodwill Donation Fundraiser. Save all of your donations and bring them to the school that day. Small household appliances and electronics are acceptable, but no furniture and items weighing over 50 lbs, please. SPORTS:

Concussion Testing - We will be offering the baseline concussion test in room 701 on Tuesday, January 25th for those who still need to take the test.  It will be limited to the first 30 students. Please arrive at the beginning of lunch since the test does take about 30 minutes to complete.  Mrs. Griffin will be there to answer any questions about spring sports you may have.

Football Meeting - Hello Viking family, Football will be having an informational meeting during lunch on Friday January 28th in room 701 for any and all who are interested in participating next season. We placed 5th which is in the middle of our league and we look forward to continue building our program to stay competitive for our upcoming season. With the success we had, one of our very own was selected to participate in THE 47th ANNUAL CHARLIE WEDEMEYER ALL-STAR GAME SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 5th 6:00 pm At Los Gatos High School. Please let's congratulate Nolan Nguyen in being selected. It would be great to have you all come out and support him and represent our school.
