On this day in 1850, Senator Henry Clay introduced a series of resolutions in an attempt to seek a compromise and avert a crisis between the North and the South. As part of the Compromise of 1850, the Fugitive Slave Act was amended and the slave trade in Washington, D.C., was abolished.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

Spirit and Charity Week:  Today is the third day of Spirit Week and Charity Week! Today’s spirit day is Twin Day, and tomorrow’s is Meme Day.  Make sure to come out and donate to coin wars in the quad at brunch, lunch, and for 15 minutes after school to help your class win in the rally and support a good cause! Standings are currently posted in the Lynbrook Facebook Group.  Today’s organization is March of Dimes, and tomorrow’s is Operation Smile.  Keep donating! If we raise $1,000 as a school, there will be a teacher pieing event on Friday at lunch in the quad.

 

January Brunch Book Browse:  The Students for Literacy Club is hosting our first Brunch Book Browse today in the back of the library. Come on by to check out new fiction and nonfiction titles in a speed scan activity led by Mrs. Ashworth. Maybe you'll find your next great read!

 

ASB/Class Officer Info Session:  Hey Freshmen, Sophomore, and Junior Vikings! Are you interested in serving Lynbrook and your peers as a Class Officer or ASB Officer? Come to the mandatory information session that will be held Tuesday, February 4th in the Auditorium. All information will be presented then, so see you there. Check your SchoolLoop email for more information!

 

Job Shadow Registration:  Job Shadow registration started yesterday. We have great shadowing opportunities for students on Monday, March 16.  To participate you must complete the registration forms.   The forms must be printed, filled in, signed by parents/guardians and submitted in person in the Library Conference room by Friday, January 31 at 1:40 PM. All students may participate in Job Shadow. For more information and the registration form go to lhsjobshadow.org.

 

Nutritionist Speaker Event Interest Form:  Are you an athlete looking for ways to improve your performance or a student interested in nutrition? If so, please fill out an interest form at tinyurl.com/NutritionistInterest. If there is enough interest, a professional nutritionist will be invited to come to Lynbrook to talk about proper nutrition and supplement education, so be sure to fill out the form!

 

Viking Buddies Fundraiser:  Do you want to eat a warm, cheesy slice of heaven while supporting a treasured club on campus? Then head on over to MOD Pizza on Prospect road next Thursday, February 6th and order yourself a personal pizza to support the Viking Buddies club! Be sure to tell the cashier you are with Lynbrook's Viking Buddies!

CLASS:

Join Band or Orchestra:  Any students interested in taking Band or Orchestra next year should email Mr. Pakaluk or stop by room 77 for information and to get the audition music. There are multiple performing groups for all ability levels and the Band is planning an international tour to England and Scotland. Join us!

 

CLUBS:

Red Cross Blood Drive:  Do you know you are somebody's type? Donate blood at Red Cross' annual blood drive on Thursday, January 30th in Library Study Rooms 1 and 2. SPORTS:

Swim Interest Meeting:  ATTENTION swimmers and divers!!! Come out to the swim interest meeting on Wednesday, January 29th during lunch in room 701. We will be going over some information on the basics of the season so be sure to come out if you are interested in joining!!!

 

Congratulations to the Valkyries:  Congrats to the Valks on starting off their season strong at Homestead's Forte Competition this past Saturday! The Valks received the highest overall execution score for their medium lyrical routine, placed first in the medium, medium lyrical, kick divisions, second in the small division, and third in the small jazz division.

 

Vikings Cheer Clinic: Come support your Lynbrook Cheer Team! We will be hosting a cheer clinic on Monday, Feb 10, Tuesday, Feb 11 from 4-6:30 pm & will be performing on Weds, Feb 12th during halftime @ LHS Basketball Game!! Each participant will receive a custom T-shirt and Bow. No experience required! All girls/boys grades 6-12 welcome. The cost is $50. There will be flyers handed out during homeroom by our Varsity cheerleaders with contact information for Coach Ashley! Come experience a few days in the life of a LHS cheerleader and bring your Viking spirit!!
