On this day in 1985, in his State of the Union address, President Ronald Reagan defined some of the key concepts of his foreign policy, establishing what came to be known as the “Reagan Doctrine.” The doctrine served as the foundation for the Reagan administration’s support of “freedom fighters around the globe. It established a U.S. foreign policy of supporting anti-communist insurgents and movements to “roll back” Soviet influence worldwide, particularly in Afghanistan, Nicaragua, and Angola throughout the mid-to-late 1980s. The policy was the centerpiece of U.S. foreign policy from 1985 until the end of the Cold War in 1991.

AP Government Course Orientation for 26-27 – For those students interested in or planning to take AP Government in the 26-27 school year, Mr. Williams will hold an orientation meeting in his room, 505, TODAY during tutorial period. The purpose of the meeting is to survey the course AND make sure students make the best, INFORMED decision before committing. Valkyries Dance Team - Last Saturday, the Valks won 1st place for both their hip-hop and character routines, and 3rd for jazz. Sophomore Emma Wu placed 3rd in her grade’s solo division. The Valks are very proud of their success and excited for what the rest of the season will bring. Their next competition will be on Saturday, Feb. 7, at Abraham Lincoln High School. Go Valks!
