On This Day in 1902 pioneering cookbook author Fannie Farmer, who changed the way Americans prepare food by advocating the use of standardized measurements in recipes, opens Miss Farmer’s School of Cookery in Boston. In addition to teaching women about cooking, Farmer later educated medical professionals about the importance of proper nutrition for the sick.

Homework Center: Starting Monday, August 26th, Homework Center will be open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 3:30-5:00pm in the Library. Drop in and get started on your homework before going home or attending sports practice. Your Student ID is required to checkout a textbook.
PSAT: The PSAT will be given at Lynbrook on Saturday, October 19 at 7:30AM. Registration for juniors will begin next week and registration for sophomores will begin on Tuesday, September 3rd. All registration closes on Friday, September 6th. Register with Mrs. Boehm in the ASB office. This is a non-refundable registration and costs $35.00. This exam is not open to freshmen.
National Honors Society Membership Application: Attention all Juniors and Seniors The National Honors Society (NHS) membership application is now available and open to any Junior or Senior with a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5. Our chapter project is serving as Tutors to the STTAR program, so if you enjoy tutoring fellow Vikes, please apply! Applications are due by September 6th, 2019, Friday, 3:45pm to Mrs. Yang’s box in the office. The application has been emailed to all Juniors and Seniors via School Loop email. Disney Movie Spirit Week: Hey guys! Next week is the Disney Movie Spirit Week. We are trying something new this year, Competitive Spirit Days. This means that two classes will pair up to compete against the other two to see who is more spirited. This year participation will count towards your rally points, so make sure to be spirited. Monday, August 20, 2019, is Finding Nemo, Tuesday is Lion King, Wednesday is Toy Story, Thursday is Monsters Inc., and Friday is the Rally. On Monday, Seniors and Freshmen will be wearing stripes while juniors and sophomores will be wearing polka dots

College & Career Center News: College representatives will be on campus starting next week! All juniors and seniors must attend a "First Impressions" workshop before they can attend any presentations. Students who attended the workshop last year are exempt. The workshops will be held next week ONLY. You must attend one of two sessions offered next week. They will be held on Tuesday and Thursday, August 27 & 29, during lunch in the auditorium. No pre-registration is required. Don't miss the workshop!
College Visits: Texas Tech University is visiting Lynbrook on Thursday, August 29, in the College & Career Center. Are you looking for a great place to study engineering or computer science with a strong chance of being admitted? Come and learn about Texas Tech on Thursday during 3rd period. Prior attendance at a First Impressions workshop is not required for this presentation. Please sign up for college visits on Naviance and get permission from teachers in advance if you have to miss class.
