On this day in 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court issued one of its most momentous decisions, ruling in Roe v. Wade that a Texas statute criminalizing abortion in most instances violated a woman's constitutional right of privacy. It was a landmark decision that established a woman’s legal right to an abortion. The Court ruled, in a 7-2 decision, that a woman’s right to choose an abortion was protected by the privacy rights guaranteed by the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. However, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade on June 24, 2022.

Job Shadow – The Lynbrook PTSA Job Shadow Program is back this year and will take place on March 17. The Job Shadow program allows students to observe, participate, and engage with professionals in their chosen field. To participate, students must submit a registration form and create an account on the Job Shadow website January 27 through January 31. Please go to https://www.lhsjobshadow.org and click on the Instructions button for more information. Registration forms can be downloaded from the Job Shadow website or student portal. You will be able to view a list of participating companies on the Job Shadow website by February 5.
Rei Trujillo Athletic Scholarship Application - The Rei Trujillo Athletic Scholarship fund was created to honor Rei Trujillo of Lynbrook’s Class of 2021. Any athlete who has done a minimum of two sports in the same academic year is welcome to apply. Please email Jamie Chan at jmc02@sbcglobal.net for an application or if you have any questions. Applications must be submitted to Ms. Chan by April 1, 2025.

Homework Center - Homework Center is open in the library on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays after school ends until 5:00 pm. Students can work independently on their assignments or get help from Student Tutors if needed.

Join LHS Asgardians' Chess/Valorant Team! - The LHS Asgardians will be holding tryouts for the Spring season for Chess and Valorant! If you are interested in signing up, please fill out this form: https://tinyurl.com/asg-spring25. Tryouts will be held on the following days:
For Chess, we will be holding tryouts on the 28th of January in person at the Cafeteria (Subject to Change) from 3:55 pm to 5:45 PM. For Valorant we will be holding tryouts on the 31st of January online from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

SPORTS:
Valkyries' First Competition Success – The Valks kicked off their competition season this past Saturday at WCE, and placed in all four of their routines! They took home 1st for XS hip hop, 2nd for small lyrical and medium hip hop, and 3rd for character. In addition, junior Angelina Zhou placed 7th in her solo age division! This was truly an exciting start to their season and we cannot wait to see them continue to shine. Their next competition will be at Homestead on 1/25. Go Valks!!
Badminton Team Info Meeting – You must attend the Badminton Info meeting if you are interested in joining the Badminton team this year. The meeting will be on Friday 1/24 right after school in library study rooms 1 and 2.
