On this day in 1863, Union forces begin the Siege of Port Hudson which lasts 48 days, the longest siege in U.S. military history up to that point.  This Siege was the final engagement in the Union campaign to recapture the Mississippi River in the American Civil War.  From the start of the American Civil War, both the Union and Confederates made controlling the Mississippi River a major part of their strategy.  The Confederacy wanted to keep using the river to transport needed supplies; the Union wanted to stop this supply route and drive a wedge that would divide Confederate states and territories.

Pops Concert – The annual Pops Concerts will be May 22 and 23 at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $5 online or at the door. Come hear some fun music from movies and musicals and the famous senior skit!

AP Art Info Session - Are you signed up for AP Studio Art for the 24-25 school year? If so, there is a very important information meeting Wednesday 5/29 at lunch in room 70. Bring your lunch and come learn about the summer assignment as well as other course requirements that will help you to be successful in this rigorous AP course.  Mr. Reynolds will give an overview of the course and show some student examples. Bring any questions you have. Hope to see you there next Wednesday 5/29 in room 70!!

Mandatory AP US History Meeting - Attention all Sophomores signed up for AP US History for the 2024-2025 school year: There is a mandatory meeting at lunch in the auditorium on Friday, May 24. See you there.



Summer book match form - Students for Literacy is opening our summer book recommendation form! Fill it out at tinyurl.com/summerbookmatch to get a personalized book recommendation list emailed to you. Deadline to fill it out is May 24th, and make sure to open the link with your school email. Indesign Fashion Show Ticket Sales – Hey Lynbrook! The indesign fashion show is coming up this Friday, May 24th from 6-8 pm in the Lynbrook Quad. Ticket sales are online at bit.ly/indesignshowtix or can be bought outside of the ASB den this Monday to Thursday at lunch. Tickets are $5 for early sales or $10 at the gate, and each ticket includes food! Information can also be found on the Lynbrook Indesign Instagram account and the weekly email. Get ready to enter the Ethereal Realms with the indesign fashion show! See you there!

Mock Trial Rocks! - Congratulations to our AMAZING Mock Trial Team who ranked FIRST in last weekend’s Empire Spring Tournament, involving 69 teams from 21 states and 3 countries. And special shout out goes to MAHI SHAH for her OUTSTANDING WITNESS award.

Science Club Awardees – Congratulations to those who qualified for USAPhO from F=ma, placing them among the top 400 students in the nation! These include:  Chang Liu, Vasisht Nishtala, Matthew Yuan, Kush Goel, Patrick Huang, William Li, Brian Bi, Brian Xue, and Michelle Yu. Additionally, Lynbrook had 5 students ranked as semifinalists from USAPhO with Brian Bi, Patrick Huang and Brian Xue earning Honorable Mention and Kush Goel and Michelle Yu placing Bronze,

Congratulations to our Physics Bowl Participants! Physics Bowl is an international competition with over 10,000 students participating from schools all over the world. We are proud of our Global 4th place student Sohil Rathi and our team, which placed 48th overall in Global Division 1.

Congratulations to our USABO semifinalists:  Matthew Yuan, Selena Yang, Aditya Mehrotra, Meghana Babu, and Harold Wang. And special congratulations to Selena Yang for placing top 20 in the nation as a finalist, earning her a chance to attend the USABO national finals.

Congratulations to our USNCO participants, with several achieving distinguished placements, including Siwen Luo placing with Honors and Jianyu Wang placing with High Honors.

Another congratulations to our Science Bowl team, which placed 9th in the National Science Bowl, and our Ocean Science Bowl teams, which placed 1st at their regional event.



Girl Athletes - Any girls who have a sport locker, and your season is finished, it is time to clean out your locker and turn in your PE lock.  Please come into the girls PE office and see Mrs. Blazek, Griffin or Plaza to turn in your lock, if your lock is missing you will be charged for the missing lock. 

Baseline Concussion Testing – Baseline Concussion Testing (BCT) will be conducted from May 28-30 in room 701. Testing will be from 3pm-6pm (no entry after 5:30pm). Notifications will be posted regarding specific testing locations for each team/sport upon arrival. BCT is REQUIRED for ALL ATHLETES and Activities (Band, Color Guard, and Winter Guard) in order to participate. A valid BCT score is good for the entire 2024-2025 school year making you eligible to participate in fall, winter, and/or spring sports.  *Tip - if you are 'on the fence' regarding interest/participation, it is highly recommended you test! Future testing is not guaranteed which may affect your opportunity to participate if you decide to pursue athletics.

Spring Football Training – For current football players and students planning to play next year, the 2024 Viking Spring Football Training kicks off May 20th - May 30th 4pm - 6pm (Mon-Thurs only).  Please meet in the weight room.
