On this day in 1942, a bill establishing a women’s corps in the U.S. Army becomes law, creating the Women’s Auxiliary Army Corps (WAACs) and granting women official military status.  Thousands of women enlisted in light of this new legislation, and in July 1943, the “auxiliary” was dropped from the name, and the Women’s Army Corps, or WACs, received full Army benefits in keeping with their male counterparts.  The WACs performed a wide variety of jobs which ranged from clerk to radio operator, electrician to air-traffic controller.  Women served in virtually every theater of engagement, from North Africa to Asia.

Lockers – Attention Students:  All contents inside the 500 Building Lockers need to be cleared out by Thursday, May 28.  The 500 Building will go under construction very soon.  Anything left in lockers after that date will be thrown out.  Please see Mr. Wong if you have any questions.

 

Mandatory AP Language Informational Meeting - Attention Sophomores registered for AP Language & Composition (APLAC) next year: Clear your schedule to attend the mandatory meeting on Monday 5/18 during tutorial in the auditorium to learn more about the required summer homework for AP Lang.  If you are a sophomore and registered for AP Lang next year, don’t miss this important meeting.

 

AP Art Mandatory Lunch Meeting – Are you signed up for AP Art next year? There's a mandatory meeting in room 70 at lunch on Friday May 22nd. Bring your lunch and learn about the summer assignment as well as important information about the class and the portfolio. There will be time for questions. This meeting will set you up for success over the summer and into class next year. Hope to see you there!

 

LIMB Goodwill Donation Fundraiser - Looking for a new home for your old sweater or unused toaster? The Lynbrook Instrumental Music Booster (LIMB) is hosting a Goodwill Donation Drive on Saturday, May 16th 2026 from 9 AM to 2 PM. Bring your gently used clothes, books, toys, and small household items to the drop off area in front of the Art Wing and you’ll be supporting Lynbrook musicians while freeing up space in your house! Pops Concert - Hey Lynbrook! Come on out to the auditorium on May 20th and 21st to support the music department in their final concert of the year! The Pops concert will feature iconic songs from the 80s as well as nostalgic soundtracks. The concerts will start at 7:00 PM each night, with doors opening at 6:30. Tickets are $8.00 at the door. We'll see you there!

 

Studio 74 Theater Festival - Come and watch Studio 74's first-ever Theater Festival on Thursday, May 21, at 8:00 PM, and Friday, May 22, at 7:00 PM, in Room 74. The two-day festival will feature True West, directed by Alden James, on the first night, and three short plays on the second night: Room 212, directed by Genevieve Yates and Anvitha Krishnan, Overtones (cast-directed), and The Zoo Story (cast-directed). All of these plays are student-led and directed and are completely free to watch, so mark your calendar and make the best of your Thursday and Friday evenings!

 

Yearbook distribution and fundraising - HEY LYNBROOK! Yearbook distribution is just around the corner. The booth will be set up outside the auditorium. May 28th from 2:15 to 3:00 PM is for senior distribution ONLY, and May 29th is for general distribution for all grades, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM. Make sure to bring your physical IDs and bring money for our boba fundraiser. Make sure to come out and pick up your yearbook, drink boba, and get signatures from your classmates and teachers! See you there!

 

Monta Vista Lynbrook Marching Band and Colorguard - Looking for an extracurricular to meet friends, get sports credit, learn new skills, and perform exciting music? Join the Monta Vista-Lynbrook Marching Band and Colorguard! If interested, come to our Kickoff on May 16th from 9 AM to 12:30 PM at Monta Vista High School. Homework Center – The Homework Center is open in the library Monday through Thursday after school until 5:00 PM. On days when the library is closed for AP testing, the Homework Center will be relocated to a classroom posted on the library door. Students may work independently on their assignments or receive help from Student Tutors, if available.
