On this day in 1918, the United States Congress passes the Sedition Act, a piece of legislation designed to protect America’s participation in World War I.  Aimed at socialists, pacifists and other anti-war activists, the Sedition Act imposed harsh penalties on anyone found guilty of making false statements that interfered with the prosecution of the war; insulting or abusing the U.S. government, the flag, the Constitution or the military; The Sedition Act is considered by many law scholars to be in direct conflict with the First Amendment right to free speech.

Studio 74 drama: upcoming events! –

Improv night: Thursday, May 22nd at 7pm in room 74.

Two teams face off in a head to head improv show, bound to make the audience ride with laughter.

Tickets are $5 for students, $10 dollars for adults

Sold in the quad at lunch from 5/19 to 5/23, at the door and on the student store

Smoothie Shop - The LHS Smoothie shop will be open weekly Wednesday and Friday through May 30th - That's only 6 more opportunities to order a smoothie for you or a friend this school year! And for the remainder of the year enjoy a discounted price of $5.00 per smoothie! Students: remember to come to room 509 at the start of lunch to pick up your smoothies! Teachers: continue to enjoy delivery during 5th period. Place your orders online by 11:05 on Wednesday or Friday in the ASB Online Store.

 

Pops Concerts - The Pops Concerts are coming up May 21 and 22 at 7:00pm featuring popular music and music from movies, particularly Wicked. Choose your team, Elphaba or Glinda. Don't miss this year's skit put on by Lynbrook's senior musicians. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door and in the online ASB store.

Commemorative Bricks - Order your commemorative brick or tile!  A perfect way to show your Viking pride!

This is an opportunity to have your name, or a family member’s name, etched and proudly shown on the Lynbrook campus! Personalized bricks make great permanent gifts. This is a wonderful way to recognize families, students, alumni and to show your Viking Spirit. Standard commemorative bricks will be placed at the Stadium Entrance. Homework Center - Homework Center is relocated to a classroom during AP exams from 5/5 - 5/23 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays after school ends until 5:00 pm. Please check the room number posted on the library door.

Join LHS MV Marching Band & Colorguard - Are you interested in music, performance, and being part of an uplifting community? Marching band and Colorguard is a unique and exciting way to make lifelong friends, as well as perform at football games and competitions! Join us in creating an unforgettable show!  Note: To participate in Marching Band during the fall season, you must be enrolled in a band class. Cheer Tryouts – Registration and tryouts are open to all Lynbrook students and incoming Freshmen.  Clinics are May 19 & 20, 5:30-8:00 pm in the Café.  Final Tryout is on May 22, 5:30-8:00 pm in the Dance Room.  Email lynbrookcheer.team@gmail.com for any question and registration link.

 

Valkyries Goodwill Fundraiser – The Valkyries Dance Team has organized a Goodwill Truck to be parked at Lynbrook (in front of Art Wing) on Saturday May 17, from 9am - 2pm. A portion of the proceeds goes back to the Lynbrook Valkyries Team based on how many items are donated. Start gathering donations of clothes, shoes, books, toys etc. Small household appliances and electronics are acceptable, but no furniture and items weighing over 50 lbs.

 

College Athlete Day - We’re throwing a special celebration for all of our outstanding seniors who will be continuing their athletic careers in college!

Baseline Concussion Testing Dates for 25-26 School Yr - Baseline Concussion Testing dates are set for the 2025-2026 school year.  If you are interested in playing a sport next year, you will need to have a baseline concussion test completed, along with a physical examination from a doctor.  Testing dates are as follows:

May 27th, 3:00 pm - 5:30 pm, field house and room 701

May 28th, 3:00 pm - 5:30 pm, field house and room 701

May 29th, 3:00 pm - 5:30 pm, field house and room 701

August 4th, 10:00 am - 12:30 pm, field house and room 701

August 25th, 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm, room 701

Time to Turn in your Sports Locks – Female Athletes - If you have a sports locker and your season is finished, it's time to clean out your locker and return your PE lock. Please come into the girls' PE office and see Ms. Griffin or Plaza to turn in your lock by May 23. If your lock is missing, you will be charged for the replacement of the lock.
