Tour is a Go!
Members of the Lynbrook Orchestra and Bands are planning a performance tour to Costa Rica during Spring Break. The instrumentation for the tour orchestra and wind symphony is set. Even though the sizes of each group (23 and 51 players) are down somewhat from previous tours, we have fine players and excellent balance in each group. Now the repertoire can be selected and rehearsed.
We expect to mount a campaign in the coming weeks to assemble a variety of donated instruments to give as gifts to our counterparts in Costa Rica. We hope that some of you will be able to help us in this worthy pursuit.
Tour Information
The Lynbrook instrumental music program has had a wonderful tradition of undertaking performance tours to special places every two years or so. Destinations have included New York City, Hawaii, Mexico, Canada (Vancouver and Montreal), Austria and Germany, England and Scotland, Italy, the People’s Republic of China and Spain.
This year an 8-day tour tour is planned to Costa Rica during spring break, April 10-17, 2010. Click here to see the presentation.
Costa Rica offers a unique touring experience for a number of reasons such as
- that country’s genuine appreciation of and affection for American musical groups,
- the opportunity for service through the donation of musical instruments,
- the country’s extraordinary variety of tropical climates,
- Costa Rica’s democratic stability and friendliness towards US citizens,
- the ability to enjoy first-class hotels within the environment of a third-world culture,
- the ease of using either Costa Rican or American currency for transactions,
- compatibility with US electrical appliances, and
- relatively moderate tour costs compared to European and Asian destinations.
We plan to take a contingent of about 80 students and parent chaperones on this very special tour.
