Today in History: 1883- After 14 years and 27 deaths while being constructed, the Brooklyn Bridge over the East River is opened, connecting the great cities of New York and Brooklyn for the first time in history. Designed by the late John A. Roebling, the Brooklyn Bridge was the largest suspension bridge ever built to that date.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

Cupertino Rotary 3rd Annual Student Poetry Contest:  Students are invited to submit poems for the third annual poetry contest hosted by the Rotary Club of Cupertino. Cash prizes of $100, $75 and $50 will be awarded to the top three awardees. The theme is “Serving Humanity”. Students may submit poems that address service above self, which reflects the Rotary’s core values of service, fellowship, diversity, integrity and leadership. Write a poem that comes from your truest heart and your unique identity. Reading time should be under two minutes. The deadline to submit a poem is June 21, 2018. Submissions should be sent to the Chair of the Student Poetry Contest, Colleen Hudgen at liveoakdaycare@att.net. Be sure to include your name, age, grade, school, email and phone number.

 

Spring Musical Announcement: The LHS Drama Department, in conjunction with the Music Department, are excited to announce our big Spring Musical for the next school year…Be our guest for Disney’s classic Beauty & the Beast!  Auditions are open to ALL Lynbrook students and will take place the last week in November after Thanksgiving Break. Performances will run in the Lynbrook Auditorium April 25 – April 28, 2019. More information to come!  We hope you will join us!

Aletheia’s New Publication: Hey Lynbrook! With AP testing, last week, finals next week, and summer approaching, we can all relate to Aletheia’s newest topic, Pressure! Come out to the top of the quad tomorrow, lunch- 7th period to pick up a copy of a special compilation issue about pressure. This issues features teacher interviews, staff comments, and of course student submissions, so don’t miss out! / K. Silverman

 

2018-2019 National Honors Society Membership Application: Attention to all Sophomores & Juniors- we’d like to inform you that the application for the 2018-2019 National Honors Society will be available starting the first day of school for the 2018-2019 school year.
